The first 992 GT3 RS to reside in Shanghai. All 992 GT3 models are not officially imported to China. At first, we believed Porsche's excuse that those cars don't meet China's newest emission regulations. But later the parallel imported cars are running on streets, we find out that the problem is not technical. The real problem is that Porsche doesn't want to make certifications and tests, because GT3s have different engines from basic models, which means extra cost. Even if Porsche makes the largest portion of its profit in Chinese market by selling cheaper models like Macan and Panamera, it just doesn't want to sell top-end products here. To make it more ridiculous, Porsche sells 992 GT3 RS as a race car in China at RMB ¥3 million ($418k) along with many other costs. And all cars are in the same spec, no Weissach, no special colours, no painted wheels. Those "race cars" can't get a license plate so they are not road legal. But they are not real race cars either so they can't compete in races. You can only drive them at very limited occasions like track days. Naturally, not a single car is sold. Customers who want to buy a road legal 992 GT3 can only get one through parallel import which means double price. This one with Weissach Package and red wheels matching the colour costs almost RMB￥7 million ($974k). I wonder if Porsche would regret not importing 992 GT3s when they see Chinese customers are so enthusiastic about those cars.

Interesting story. I've seen several 991 GT3 RS's being uploaded in China before. Is this only for the 992?

Super strange! Sounds like a no brainer to sell these things the normal way in China

@JeffreydeRuiter Only for 992.1 to be precise, and not only 992.1 GT3s, PCN didn't import 981 Spyder, 981 GT4, 982 GT4, 982 Spyder 4.0 and 982 GTS 4.0s either even though due to their 3.8/4,0 engine, the government collect more taxes on these cars, so they can't make much profit. At first people think they weren't imported because they weren't equipped with PDKs(PCN rarely introduce Manual Porsches) but after Porsche introduced PDK to 718 GT4/Spyder and they are still not imported into Mainland China. So we have two unique models: 718 Spyder 2.0 and 718 Boxster 25 Jahre based on 718 Boxster GTS 2.5.
Meanwhile 992.1 GTS and Turbo aren't imported because 991 GTS/Turbo didn't sell well.(While Turbo S did, so we say goodbye to Sport Classics too but PCN did import 250 Dakars.)
The strict emission regulation did cause some cars, which are supposed to be imported(Ford GT 2017, Aston Martin AMRs), failed to arrive here. But that's not the case for Porsche,
